Probably the largest variety of orchids I‘ve ever seen…

2019/08/12 Orchid’s Festival in Chiang Maiz

One day at noon, I didn’t need to stay in my workplace. That was a rarely sunny day (it was the rainy season in Chiang Mai at that time). But I still went out under strong sunshine. Actually when I came back from Iberia Peninsula last year, I was not afraid of the sun. Summer, it’s unbelievable that I have a desire to tan.

I walked around the old town and imperceptibly arrived at the three Kings temple, which was the center of the old town. And there was a orchids’ festival there.

I don’t know whether it’s for tourism or celebrate something special, since all the words were in Thai. But I found a huge portrait. If I am right, this is old queen but when she’s young, I mean the beloved former king’s only wife. I learned that her birthday was on that date later.

It was a hot day, but the orchids were blooming well. This one was the most unique. It looked like several pieces of pointy leafs. Someone might think it’s ugly…

This group of orchids… You can watch them from a distance, but if you look closely… it’s kind of scary. The pattern of those petals is a little like freckled skin. Do you agree with me?

Another shape of orchids is like this, I put two pics together and then we can easily compare with each other. The orchids in the second picture were more like delicate beauties.

It’s amazing, one flower had two totally different colors on it. In the second image, the white petals are stained with gradient purple colors. It’s fantastic.

The petals of these normal orchids were like open fans, usually in a row of two, in a more orderly bloom. The pigmentation was in the middle of the flower and the overall petal was light colored. The leaves were broad and thick. I particularly like the white one, pure, elegant, noble…

These deep red flowers, although small, but gave me a sense of power…

I didn’t know how these flowers can grow so healthy without water, soil or nutrients… Root liked beard. After all, it was a hot day… And no staff to water them… btw, do orchids need to be watered very often??? 🙂

This one, I took from a top of branch, though I don’t know if it was used artificially grafting but I really liked it. I couldn’t recognize the red stuff was leaves or petals.
