Chaozhou, China——Hurried past a charming city

Having finished my work in Guilin, I planed to take the bullet train home. Passed through the City Chaozhou and spent one night there. Chaozhou is on the border of Guangdong Province and Fujian Province, it has neutralized the characteristics of two provinces from the South of China, but it has a unique style. Archaic, classical, artistic…

This was my first trip to Chaozhou… The train station was a little far from the downtown. I took a bus for nearly an hour. Miraculously, just got off the bus and then walked a few steps before it began to rain heavily. It was probably a solemn welcoming ceremony for the city. So I changed my mind to have dinner first.

Paifang Street after the rain… This street is a landmark of Chaozhou, and the archways we see now have been continuously restored in recent years. This district has formed a cultural tourism center of the ancient city that reflects the historical features, cultural environment and economic life of Chaozhou.

I don’t know how many archways it has…but every archways have different words lettering.

Century-old store… Old Store… Reported by CCTV or other variety shows… Stores sold many local foods, difficult to choose as they all well-advertised.

Medicinal materials for making tea or soup…

You know how much I wanna to eat hot pot after living in a small countryside! As soon as the restaurant started dinner service, I entered and ordered many specialties.

Very fresh raw beef…

For me, hot pot with beef can not be lack of coriander.

I couldn’t control myself that I ordered too much. This led directly to my extreme discomfort at night.

I passed by a street near a old market. It smelled bad and had bad air pollution… The people who lived here were old people, and you may see a lot of footprints about 1990s of China.

I walked to the end of the Paifang Street, across a parking lot, and saw my hostel. It seemed to be a creative industry block, with hostel, some small scale restaurants and artwork shops.

I really like this hostel, honestly speaking, though it’s more suitable to be described as a hotel. More family customers rather than backpackers. I laid down my luggage and hung out for a while.

Paifang Street at night was full of people. And noise… before that I visited the old wall and walked little bit near the river.

You know I love walking, walking is the best way to explore the city. Just for me.

Closer, closer… larger, larger…

I slowly approached the spot… Especially gorgeous under night background.

There were many old buildings in this form.

The best white sesame paste and walnut paste… Super cheap and warmed my heart a lot. But unfortunately, I had diarrhea… Very serious… And the constant cold sweats at night… badly uncomfortable.

The next day, I was still weak. I felt so sorry I that got the hostel sheet dirty… I didn’t sleep well so when I got on the taxi, I just closed my eyes and saved energy. I couldn’t imagine how I spent that day, a long train trip. Even though it’s a bullet train, it’s very slow… And the compartment was like the traditional one with six people in one compartment… Put luggage on the seat above and we sat below. Too tired to speak even one word, so listened the music and slept, a terrible train trip.

Only when people get sick, he or she will know to stop doing something crazy and take a good rest.

I didn’t eat any food on the train… Very weak, I just wanted to go home soon… I must be too tired at that time. My mom complained me a lot when she met me, as normal, every time when I back. Bad words are waiting me hahaha 🙂
